Hi! My name is Kate McCord. I’m the 8th grade homeroom teacher, but I also teach Social Studies and Religion to all the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. This is my 8th year at STA and my 19th year teaching overall.
I started teaching in 2000, and all that experience has been at the middle school level. I graduated from Alverno College in Milwaukee with a degree in Broadfield Social Studies and Secondary Education. Before that I went to St. Joan Antida High School and St. Augustine of Hippo grade school. As you can see, I’ve spent my entire life in Catholic Education!
My favorite part of being a teacher at STA is the chance to get to know the kids and watch them learn and grow over the years that I teach them. That time enables me to make a deeper connection with the kids than schools where I was only able to teach them one year. I also enjoy being able to share my faith with them and lead them to a personal relationship with Jesus.
In my free time I like to read (mostly historical fiction or thrillers) and do needlepoint. I find it relaxes me and gives me time to unwind from a long day of school. I also enjoy cooking and baking. I have an obsession with all things Snoopy and Peanuts, and I also enjoy catching the Brewers game any chance I get. Every summer I go with my family up to St. Germain for two weeks of fun, food, and frolicking.
I have three “babies”. They are my miniature dachshund Gunther; my Siberian husky, Tatiana; and my Pembroke Welsh corgi, Chewy. They keep me active and lively at home!
Thanks for taking a minute to meet me and I look forward to working with you this year!
